On 12 April, the BUDG Committee discussed a draft report from Eider Gardiazabal (S&D) on a proposal to mobilise the European Union Solidarity Fund to provide support to Greece and France for natural disasters and 17 Member States and 3 accession countries for the Covid-19 public health emergency.

The Rapporteur recommended swift adoption of the proposed decision, which would unlock nearly 87 million EUR for the natural disasters in Greece and France and over 397 million EUR for Covid-19 support. The EU Solidarity Fund was set up to provide support in the event of natural disasters and, in 2020, with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, its scope was broadened to include public health emergencies under the Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative.

The BUDG Committee is scheduled to vote on the report on 10 May.
