The reform of the EU Generalised System of Preferences

A distinguished panel of speakers will debate the main challenges for the future reform of the EU Generalised System of Preferences, at the INTA public hearing on 14 April March 2021 from 13:45 to 15:45. Mrs Isabelle DURANT, Acting Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Mr Radboud REIJN, GSP Platform Coordinator, Mrs Stéphanie LUONG, Vice President for Public Affairs, Amfori / Trade with Purpose, and

Mr San BILAL, Head of Programme Trade, Investment and Finance, Economic and Agricultural Transformation at ECDPM, will debate the main issues at stake for the reform of the EU Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) whose current legal basis will lapse at the end of 2023. Panelists will, among others, tackle the issue of GSP's support to the implementation of the SDGs, the options for a more accountable and transparent system, the role of EU companies in contributing to the achievement of GSP's goals, or the challenge of greater and sustainable diversification of exports from beneficiary countries. This hearing is part of the overall preparatory work carried by INTA, lead committee responsible for the reform of the GSP, ahead of the adoption of the legislative proposal for a reviewed GSP in a few months' time.
