Art Works! Careers in the Visual Arts and People with Disabilities

Art Webinar Banner

The Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) is dedicated to furthering the cause of inclusion in every aspect of life—and the arts are no exception. GCPD is proud to present a panel of professional artists with disabilities and provide their insight into what’s needed to make a career in the visual arts. Join us Wednesday, April 28th at 3pm for an enlivening discussion! Please note the new time. Panelists will share their path towards commercial success and their creative and acclaimed art with our audience. The webinar will close with our statewide call for artists for the 2021 National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) poster competition.

Panelists:

Grant Manier - Grant is an award-winning artist and advocate who captured the attention of national media for his use of recycled paper in his pieces. He recently launched a new children's book series. He is the 2014 NDEAM poster competition winner.

Sam Eiler - Sam's family realized he was an artist at three years old, when his mother found him carving SpongeBob SquarePants into their dining room table. He practices in multiple mediums, with some of his most notable works being his puppet-making. Sam has been a SAGE Studio artist since December 2018.

John Bramblitt - After losing his sight in 2001, John decided to pick up a paintbrush. He did not anticipate that his paintings would have an audience, but his work has been featured in The New York Times, on the Discovery Channel, and most major news outlets. His pieces have been sold in over 120 countries.

Nancy Wood - Nancy is a classically trained artist who uses photography and digital media to explore the aesthetics of natural landscapes. She regularly participates in exhibits with Art Spark Texas and is the 2017 NDEAM poster competition winner.
