Infection rates in Telford and Wrekin begin to level out
The number of new confirmed coronavirus cases in Telford and Wrekin continues to remain stable, the latest weekly figures show.
There were 41 new cases reported for Telford and Wrekin during the past seven days (19-25 April), four fewer than the previous seven-day period.
The borough's infection rate is similar to the regional and national average.
 Tracking of the mutation of the UK-variant continues in Hadley and Leegomery
It's reassuring that coronavirus cases in Telford and Wrekin remain low. But, we still need to closely monitor the mutation of the UK-variant.
We have seen a huge community effort in Hadley and Leegomery of people going out to get tested. Thank you. Each test helps us to track and stop the spread of the virus.
Every test is sequenced in a laboratory to confirm who has the mutation of the Covid-19 variant.This sequencing takes time, so we can't update yet on the situation.
Public Health England has advised that there is no evidence the mutation of the UK-variant causes more serious illness.
However, we need your help in monitoring this variant and stop it from spreading further
The following people are now being asked to take a PCR Covid-19 test, even if they are not showing symptoms:
- Families with school aged children in Hadley and Leegomery;
- Their extended families, friends, bubbles
- and residents in Hadley & Leegomery
You can book a test at testing sites across the borough now.
When completing the booking form, in the section "Why are you getting tested?", please select the following option: "My local council or health protection team has asked me (or someone I live with) to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms."
Get tested twice a week
New Coronavirus variants and mutations underline why we all need to continue to play our part to help suppress and control the spread of the virus.
It's essential for everyone in Telford and Wrekin to get a rapid test twice a week if they are feeling well and have been vaccinated"
Book your vaccination if you are 42+
People aged 42 (or that will turn 42 before 1 July) can now book their 1st Covid-19 vaccination.
Vaccinations can be booked online or by calling 119.
You can also book your appointment if you:
- are at high risk from coronavirus (clinically extremely vulnerable)
- have a condition that puts you at higher risk (clinically vulnerable)
- have a learning disability
- are a carer - you get a Carer's Allowance or other support; your GP record shows you are a carer
If you are an eligible unpaid carer but you cannot book an appointment, speak to your GP surgery.
