State Police Again Team with SOKY for Statewide Fundraising Event

Once again in 2024 you can help Kentucky State Police Cover the Cruiser to support Special Olympics Kentucky. From April 19-27, Troopers across the state will be parked at various businesses attempting to cover their cruisers in Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics icons. Visit any Cover the Cruiser location and make a minimum $1 donation to Special Olympics Kentucky and you will receive an icon to personalize and tape to a KSP cruiser parked there. All 16 KSP posts across the state and the State Headquarters in Frankfort the state are participating in Cover the Cruiser events during the week, and all proceeds go to provide Special Olympics Kentucky sports, health and school community building programs throughout Kentucky.

For the first time this year you will also be able to give on site via Venmo in addition to cash.

This will be the fifth year for the Cover the Cruiser program. It has raised a total of more than $56,000 in its first four years, including $9,185 a year ago.

KSP initiated the Cover the Cruiser fundraising event in 2020 when the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run was canceled due to COVID-19. Each year, The Torch Run escorts the Special Olympics Flame of Hope to kick off the State Summer Games in Richmond, Ky.

State Troopers participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run effort, in conjunction with law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, to raise awareness and funding for Special Olympics programs.

“We appreciate the support that the Kentucky State Police give our athletes every year,” said Special Olympics Kentucky President and CEO Trish Mazzoni. “Cover the Cruiser has been an amazing partnership and it has only deepened as the event has continued. It means so much to our athletes to have this kind of support from the State Troopers who they look up to.”
