Start-up companies and SMEs make a significant contribution to building a globally competitive European space sector. To support these entities in their internationalisation efforts, ESA has organised a Global Space Markets Challenge and further extended the deadline for applications to 30 July.

This competition, which opened on 10 May, is in line with ESA’s Agenda 2025 and aims to increase the competitiveness of European businesses and drive commercialisation.

ESA invites applications to the Challenge to help small promising space-based companies, specialised in upstream or downstream activities, to enter new international markets.

Six SMEs from ESA Member States, Associate States or Canada will win prizes and promotion opportunities, including the chance to showcase their business at the 72nd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Dubai from 25–29 October 2021 and to connect with the investor community.

SMEs play an important role in disruptive innovation – quick to respond to changes in market needs and agile enough to incorporate cutting-edge technology and processes in the supply chain. The Global Space Markets Challenge is intended to be a springboard for promising SMEs into international markets, improving their visibility and worldwide competitiveness
