Since Monday 19 July, most COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted as we moved to step 4 of the roadmap. This means that there are no set restrictions on how many people can take part in sport and physical activity, indoors and outdoors. And all leisure centres and sport facilities remain open to the public in a COVID-safe environment but with no capacity limits. With this in mind, our primary focus will always be the health and wellbeing of our residents, and we ask that you continue to do your bit to ensure a healthy and safer environment within our facilities and open spaces. Please continue to be cautious; meet outdoors as much as you can, wear your masks in busy environments and clean your hands or shared equipment regularly. For a safe return and to keep our city out of harm's way, let's encourage our fellow community to get regular tests and take the vaccine if you're 18 or older. For more information on guidance or any updates to access and restrictions, visit our website.

The most celebrated global sporting event is underway, and Team GB are off to a great start! We’re giving an extra loud cheer for our Manchester athletes who are doing us proud. A massive well done to James Guy for achieving a gold medal as the GB men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team scored an emotional, record-breaking victory on Wednesday and Georgia Taylor-Brown as she battled the elements and a flat tire to claim the silver medal in the women's triathlon.
With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in full swing, MCRactive have put together a guide of our showcase events, and to let you know where to try them out for yourself. This summer, we've got the Sport is Back Festival, Active Parks, Junior Camps, Pay and Play sessions, plus Adult and Family sessions across the city. Everyone has their favourite games to watch—from gymnastics to swimming to basketball. Why not celebrate and take part in your favourite sport this Summer too?! Take a look at wide range of activities here and share your #SummerOfSport with @MCRactive across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!

In collaboration with the Royal Manchester Children Hospital, we've launched a series of fun and progressive videos to tackle children obesity across Manchester. Filmed at the Manchester Aquatics Centre, these videos were led by 2 amazing MCRactive Physical Activity Instructors, Gligan Fitness & Active For Life, who put their own identity on each video and both of whom have vast experience with families and young people. Have a go and join in with your little ones!

Moss Side Library & Leisure Centre has achieved Excellent’ in its recent one-day Quest Prime Assessment. Quest is the UK quality scheme for sport and leisure and involves an assessment and mystery visit. Modules for assessment include such things as management processes, COVID-19 recovery, member journey and community engagement.
Moss Side is the first centre in Manchester to achieve this grading and the team are over the moon with the outcome. Well done to GM Faye West and the team. They were supported on the day by Councillor Lee-Ann Igbon, a huge supporter of the centre, and Kate Cusack from MCRactive.

The countdown to the Great Manchester Run is on and we're so looking forward to seeing everyone running through the city streets again. After the 18 months we’ve had, the thrill of running together through the heart of Manchester and the unbeatable feeling of crossing the finish line on Deansgate, will be even more special this year. We’re encouraging the city to join the 10k on Sunday 26 September, famous for its city centre route, buzzing atmosphere from start to finish, iconic music and entertainment zones every kilometre of the course, and of course Mancunian spirit in abundance. We can’t wait for the challenge, fundraising, the fun and to see lots of you there!

We're delighted to announce that our Sport Is Back festival has taken full swing this summer in Manchester. Several events have run throughout the city over the last weekend and we'll be hosting more this Weekend! There'll be football, tennis, basketball dance and netball to name a few. The events range from competitive competitions, to turn up and play sessions.
It has been a great opportunity to celebrate the return of sport with the ease of restrictions and to allow local clubs to showcase their sport to our residents. Dominos Netball Club praised MCRactive and Manchester City Council saying “Many thanks for supporting this year’s event. Manchester City Council were key to this Junior club’s inception in 2003 and have been fantastic supporters ever since. For them to be still supporting our events 17 years on shows just how important the Council see inclusive Sport is to the residents in Manchester.”
This weekend coming, July 31 and August 1, will be another fun filled competitive and turn up and play sessions. Find your favourite sport here and join us!
