As work proceeds on Europe's Galileo Second Generation satellites, the European Space Agency is pleased to announce the Galileo Second Generation Industry Day 2021 online event on Tuesday 7 September.

ESA, in collaboration with the European Commission and the European Union Agency for the Space Programme, will present the roadmap of Galileo Second Generation (G2) procurements that will be initiated from September 2021 onwards.

This event represents a major milestone for the future implementation of G2 capabilities.

With their first launches due in the middle of this decade, G2 satellites will be much larger than existing Galileo satellites and represent a major technical step forward. Employing electric propulsion for the first time, and hosting an enhanced navigation antenna, their fully digital payloads are being designed to be easily reconfigured in orbit, enabling them to actively respond to the evolving needs of users with novel signals and services.

The G2 Industry Day information will be focused on G2 System, Ground Segment and Test Beds procurements, critical for the successful qualification, launch and In-Orbit Validation of the first G2 satellites and system capabilities.

The high level agenda of the G2 Industry Day is as follows:

  • 12:50            Roll call for verification of participants (ESA)
  • 13:00            Welcome to participants (EC, EUSPA, ESA)
  • 13:15            Galileo G1 Mission Status & G2 Mission Overview (EC)
  • 13:40            Galileo G1 Services Status & G2 Services Overview (EUSPA)
  • 14:05            Galileo System Status (ESA)
  • 14:30            G2 Procurements context (ESA)
  • 15:30            Coffee Break
  • 15:45            G2 Procurements content and timeline (ESA)
  • 17:00            Closure of the G2 Industry Day (EC, EUSPA, ESA).
