Public hearing on green and digital new own resources - 17 March 2021

Linking EU budget revenue and policy objectives: How can new own resources contribute to the green and digital priorities. The Committee on Budgets organised a public hearing focusing on the new own resources expected to be proposed in Q2 2021. They will provide new financing for the EU budget and help repay the debt of the COVID-19 economic rebound stimulus fund, Next Generation EU.

Members wished to examine in particular the three new own resources: the digital levy, the revised EU Emission Trading System (ETS) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. Invited speakers includes: Mrs. Schratzenstaller from the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WiFo), Mr. Pisany Ferry from Bruegel and European University Institute (EUI), Mr. Saint-Amans from the OECD and Ms Costa, Deputy Director General of the Cabinet of Planning, Strategy, Evaluation and International Relations of the Portugese Ministry of Finance.

The hearing took place on Wednesday 17 March (13.45-16.15).
