Vincent Lloyd Malveaux

Probationary Firefighter

On Dec. 2, 2021, Probationary Firefighter Malveaux was in his 6th week of firefighter training. Probationary Firefighter Malveaux became ill during morning physical training. He was immediately transported to Harlem Hospital where he passed away the next day.

In May of 2022, the New York City Medical Examiner stated that Probationary Firefighter Malveaux died of complications of exertional rhabdomyolysis — the result of muscles breaking down and releasing proteins into the bloodstream. It is associated with strenuous exercise or normal exercise under extreme circumstances.
