EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol (RGV) agents seize over 560 pounds of marijuana worth more than $450,000 in the last three days.

On Dec. 20, RGV agents received information of a possible migrant stash house in Roma, Texas, and requested assistance from Starr County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies. At the residence, they encountered two migrants, one male from Guatemala and a Honduran female, both unlawfully present in the United States. The team also discovered and seized 15 bundles of marijuana in a restroom shower. The marijuana seized weighed almost 170 pounds and is valued at more than $135,500. A vehicle suspected of transporting the narcotics was also seized. The migrants were transported to the Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station and deputies took custody of the marijuana and vehicle.

On Dec. 19, a Harlingen Border Patrol Station agent and his K9 partner encountered two subjects carrying two large suspected bundles of marijuana near Los Indios, Texas. The subjects dropped the bundles and fled toward the Rio Grande into some brush. Responding agents seized the two bundles of marijuana that weighed approximately 102 pounds worth $82,000. The K9 team located and arrested the two suspected smugglers hiding under some thick brush. Record checks revealed one of the Mexican nationals was a minor and the other unrelated 40 year old male had numerous removals from the U.S. dating back to 2015.

On Dec. 18, Brownsville Border Patrol Station (BRP) agents responded to illicit activity near the Rio Grande in Brownsville. A K9 team located four bundles of marijuana that weighed more than 157 pounds and is valued at approximately $125,900. While searching the area, agents reported four suspected smugglers going back into Mexico.

Almost simultaneously two miles away, additional BRP agents interdicted another marijuana smuggling attempt. Agents seized three bundles of marijuana weighing more than 133 pounds after three suspected smugglers abandoned the load. They were observed returning to Mexico. The marijuana seizure is valued at more than $106,000.

All detained subjects were processed accordingly.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
