WPTO Announces New Round of Funding and Expanded Eligibility for Hydroelectric Production Incentive Program

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) today announced it is accepting applications for $7 million in funding available under the Hydroelectric Production Incentive Program, which is mandated in Section 242 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Under this new round of funding, WPTO will select qualified facilities based on the number of kilowatt-hours generated in calendar year 2020.

Recent statutory amendments expanded the eligibility criteria for this latest round of funding. Additional hydroelectric facilities, such as those located in communities with inadequate electric service, may now be eligible to receive incentive payments. The U.S. Department of Energy also increased the maximum payment per facility to $1 million per year (an increase from the $750,000 limit in the previous round).

Visit the WPTO website for more information and guidance on the newest round of funding for the Hydroelectric Production Incentive Program. Applications are due February 10, 2022.
