LifeFlight of Maine - Kate O’Halloran and Bill Cyr

LifeFlight of Maine is generously providing a door prize – everyone in attendance will be entered to win..

LifeFlight of Maine is the state’s only emergency air ambulance service. Over the past 23 years, LifeFlight has safely cared for 33,000 patients of all ages—from premature infants and critically injured children, to adults and seniors who need specialty care. The calls for help come from all points in Maine—from the mountains to the lakes and coastal islands, from highways, trails, main streets, and, importantly, from hospital to hospital.

For LifeFlight patients, every minute matters. Their chances of survival and quality of life after a traumatic event depends on our ability to safely traverse Maine’s vast expanse, rugged terrain, and challenging weather. LifeFlight is the “invisible safety net” for all those who work, live, and recreate in Maine.

Please join Kate O’Halloran (Executive Director) and Bill Cyr (Chief Operating Officer) of LifeFlight of Maine to learn about this service that is so important to the forest industry, including remote landing zones and how the organization works to support the forest industry – which is often operating in extremely remote regions.

Stream Smart Phase I Workshop – Virtual

Date:

Friday, April 15, 2022

Time:

8:30 am -12:30 pm

Location:

Virtual

Cost:

Free, registration required

Maine Audubon will be holding a half-day virtual introductory Stream Smart workshop on April 15 starting at 8:30 a.m.  Applying the Stream Smart principles to road crossings can help connect and maintain fish and wildlife habitat while protecting roads and public safety. Stream Smart crossings can also help you prepare for the large and frequent storm events that are increasingly washing out roads around the state and the northeast.

This workshop is aimed at anyone responsible for road-stream crossings—including contractors, road commissioners, public works departments, conservation commissions, engineers, planners, land trusts, watershed groups, foresters, and private landowners. Participants in this workshop will learn about stream functions, regulations, how to design a Stream Smart crossing, and will be eligible to receive recertification credit for the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Voluntary Contractor Certification Program and CFE credits from the Society of American Foresters.

We will also include information on some of the funding programs available, including the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) “Municipal Stream Crossing Upgrade Grant Program” and the NRCS “Regional Conservation Partnership Program  for forest landowners.” .
