Q: Why does this work interest you, and how did you get started?

As an engineer at my previous employment, I coordinated improvements with our Maintenance Divisions and realized that a lot of improvements does not compensate for the maintenance challenges.  The challenges piqued my interest in the maintenance operations side and made me want to be a part of the solutions to the challenges.

To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate should be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.), Adobe Professional, have project management and analytical skills, ability to effectively interpret and present information to small and large staff and residents, multitask, prioritize, learn and teach staff new technologies/software/hardware.

Q: What tools and resources does the City or Department provide to be productive and effective in this role? (professional development, mentoring, coaching, trainings etc.)

As a Civil Engineer, I've had the opportunity to attend conferences (i.e. Snow Conference to obtain training and viewing of new technologies applicable to snow operations), receive mentoring/coaching from management and given professional growth opportunities (managing the Street Maintenance accreditation process).
