What is the City Centre Strategy?

Work has begun to form a new vision and action plan to regenerate Southend City Centre. The strategy will set a clear vision and series of actions to guide the future development and direction of Southend City Centre for years to come.

The aim of this work is to produce a shared vision for the City Centre, where all stakeholders, partners and residents can identify their role in delivery. The Strategy and Investment Plan which will help shape a practical plan to attract new investment and partnerships, ensuring that local growth is the goal.

Grounded in the Southend 2050 ambition for the future, this engagement event will continue the extensive conversations already had with those that live, work, visit, do business and study in Southend City.

About the project

Southend City Council has appointed architecture and urbanism experts We Made That to lead on the delivery of a Strategy and Investment Plan for Southend City Centre. The design team brings together a diverse team of specialists; PRD are socio-economic analysts advising on economy and city centre business opportunities, Steer are transport and infrastructure consultants looking into town centre access, Stockdale will provide cost information for priority projects and Tom Fleming brings expertise on the creative and cultural sector.

The Council and partners will use this work to ensure the city centre moves into the best position to take advantage of forthcoming government investment, whilst encouraging private sector and partnership investment, and community partnership opportunities.
