Join the Missouri Department of Conservation for an exciting catfishing experience on the Mississippi! This two-day clinic will teach anglers techniques for catching catfish on Missouri's Streams & Rivers using alternative methods. Friday evening participants will be taken on the Mississippi River and shown how to safely set lines and navigate the river. Once off the river, there will be presentations on regulations, tactics and gear. Saturday morning, participants will head out on the river to check lines, learn about regulations, and hopefully harvest some catfish. A fish cleaning demo will be conducted upon return to the location. MDC staff and volunteers will offer instruction on the basics of setline fishing on Missouri’s rivers and lakes. An MDC Fisheries Management Biologist will provide information on recent catfish surveys and management of fish populations. The program will focus on safe and legal use of trotlines and bank poles, gear, equipment, and boat operation. Fishing, safety equipment and bottled water will be provided. All other needs, including lodging and food, is up to the participant. This clinic is for first time participants wanting to learn how to fish with alternative methods for catfish. This clinic, for ages 12-years and older, will take place on the Mississippi River near Alexandria, 4:30–8 p.m. on Friday, July 29, and 8 a.m.–noon on Saturday, July 30. Register by July 20. Please have each person in your party sign up separately. Participants under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
