Goat Hill Parking

Temporary subsidized parking ends Sept. 2

The temporary subsidized parking program of half the employee cost of parking at the Goat Hill Parking Garage and King Street Center Garage will end Sept. 2, 2022.

Effective Sept. 3, 2022 the full daily rate of $20 will be in effect. Employees who wish to park for a full day at either of these garages will pay a $20 daily rate with their employee ID Card. You can find complete hourly rates here. Read more.


Wastewater Peak Performance Award

Celebrating our award-winning treatment plants

All five of King County’s wastewater treatment plants received 2021 National Association of Clean Water Agency’s (NACWA) Peak Performance Awards, honoring multiple consecutive years of compliance with state and federal effluent permit limits.

Special congratulations go to Brightwater for earning its first Platinum award for five years of compliance – and to Vashon for Platinum with 11 years of compliance. Read more.

Anti-Racist White Action Group monthly meeting Aug. 23

Join us for the monthly Anti-Racist White Action Group (ARWAG) meeting. ARWAG is one of the county’s Affinity Groups (also called Employee Resource Groups) that addresses racism and other forms of oppression to advance the county’s equity and social justice goals.

This month's session offers support and ideas for colleagues who are working to interrupt racism in the workplace. Join a brainstorm on racial justice actions that ARWAG members can promote.

Gone but not forgotten – Indigent remains ceremony Aug. 24

Every few years, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office (KCMEO) hosts a unique memorial to ensure that every King County resident is remembered. The KCMEO’s Indigent Remains Program provides burial for King County residents who have died without resources or family to claim their remains for a proper burial.

The next ceremony to remember these individuals will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Renton (100 Blaine Ave NE). It’s open to any member of the public who wishes to pay their respects. Read more.

My Secure Advantage is a financial wellness program that provides King County employees with tools and coaching to help you reach your financial goals. Below are their upcoming free webinars.

Planning for College 101 - The costs of attending college continue to increase, so planning is imperative. This class will discuss different types of college savings accounts and review the financial aid process. It may be important to get funds from as many sources as possible, so we’ll review scholarships, grants, and loans. Get ready to leave this class better prepared to establish and fund your college savings goals.

Student Loan Repayment Strategies - For many employees, especially in the first half of their careers, student loan payments are a significant monthly expense. This class helps attendees consider repayment options that meet their individual goals. We discuss repayment options for both federal and private loans, which include how to lower monthly payments or pay off loans faster.

Training Spotlight:

STAR-LA Interview Practice and Feedback This 1.5-hour online, small group workshop is designed to provide mock interview practice and feedback using the STAR-LA method as taught by King County Career Support Services. This workshop is for participants who have attended the Strategic Interviewing Tips and Techniques workshop or have watched the 10-minute STAR-LA method video found on the Career Support Services website.

Mentorship Lunch & Learn – Online – Would you like to have a mentor, someone who can help you grow professionally? Do you want to strengthen your coaching skills? As a Mentee, you will have a trusted advisor who can help you navigate complex situations, and as a Mentor, you can uncover new or forgotten skills and build influence. This Lunch and Learn is free and the next session is:

Strategic Interviewing Tips and Techniques – This two-hour online workshop will provide strategies and tips to help you to do your best during an interview. Learning objectives include:

  • How to prepare for a virtual job interview
  • The interview structure and types of questions you will be asked
  • The STAR-LA method and how to use it to provide organized and complete responses
  • General tips and strategies
