Executive Constantine proclaims Sept. 5 - 9 as National Payroll Week
King County Executive Dow Constantine is recognizing the dedication and expertise of King County's payroll professionals by proclaiming Sept. 5 through Sept. 9, 2022 as National Payroll Week.
"I encourage all County residents to join me in recognizing hardworking Americans across our nation, and in honoring all payroll professionals for their contributions to our economy and quality of life," Constantine states.

King County’s 2024 Comprehensive Plan survey
King County is starting a once-a-decade update to its Comprehensive Plan, which guides where people live, work, and play in unincorporated King County. To ensure that King County will be a welcoming community where every person can thrive, the 2024 update will focus on policies related to racial equity, affordable housing, and climate change.

King County employee performs emergency CPR
Last month, Solid Waste Division employee Kevin Dahl was unhooking his trailer before leaving Cedar Hills for his final garbage load of the night. That’s when he noticed something unusual.
After investigating, he found a coworker passed out in the corner of the restroom. So he immediately took action. Read more.

Representatives from community and ethnic media outlets met with regional public information officers and communication professionals recently to develop better relationships and improve communication to all communities in the King County region.

Get a flu shot this fall
The county makes it free for employees and anyone covered by your benefits to get a flu shot at one of our onsite clinics, or at your doctor’s office or local pharmacy. The Balanced You team is again organizing free onsite flu shot clinics for those workers onsite.

- East Transit Base: Monday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 9 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
- King County International Airport – Boeing Field: Monday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to noon
- Seattle Streetcar: Wednesday, Sept. 14 from noon to 3 p.m.
- South Treatment Plant: Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6:30 to 8 a.m.
- Maleng Regional Justice Center: Thursday, Sept. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- North Transit Base: Friday, Sept. 16 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and 2:30 to 5 p.m.

Register for September retirement classes
Check out the following educational opportunities to help you prepare for retirement. These online classes will be held on Zoom or Teams and are provided by your King County Retirement Team.
Your PERS Pension: Learn about your Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) pension. Guest speaker Jim Mendoza from DRS will discuss your options as a King County employee and answer your questions.
Road to Retirement: This 90-minute class is designed for employees who are planning to retire from King County in the next six months. It covers procedures, forms, medical coverage options, and pension plans—so you’ll be on a smooth road toward a happy retirement.

By cultivating mindfulness and compassion, we’re able to know our emotions more fully, respond to strong emotions more wisely, and cultivate and strengthen positive emotions—all of which builds resilience.
Introduction to Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a practice that can help you quiet your mind, find focus, and reduce some of the stress many of us experience. Participants will try simple practices to use at work and home in this hands-on workshop.

Training Spotlight:
Communication and Problem Solving Skills. This two-day, online training will address communication and problem-solving skills with the public and with coworkers. The class covers skills for effective listening, speaking, handling conflicts, and managing defensive behavior. The fee is $65 and attendance at both days is required for completion of the class.
