Lane closure for Forder Valley Interchange works

From Monday 17 January there will be a lane closure on the slip road from the A38 (eastbound) towards Leigham Roundabout, as part of the Forder Valley Interchange improvement works.

The dedicated left-turn lane will be closed for five weeks (but drivers will still be able to turn left onto Delamere Road using the adjacent first ahead lane).

This is for works to improve visibility and road safety on the approach to the roundabout, by flattening a large soil bank in the area between the A38 slip road and Delamere Road and removing some vegetation. Around 20 small trees will be removed but the bank will be replanted with a mix of low growing, ground-cover species. These will include evergreen shrubs and flowering plants that are excellent for shady areas where little else will grow, which will also increase biodiversity.

Wider landscaping plans for the scheme will see around 300 new trees planted on and off-site as well as improved planting that will better blend the verges of the highway into meadow grasslands, then into tree and shrub planting at the woodland edge before merging with the existing mature woodlands of the Forder Valley.

A more diverse range of grasses and wildflower species for the meadows will provide excellent habitats for insects and invertebrates and the woodland edge will be planted with native trees and shrubs, providing food and shelter for the local wildlife.
