New Funding Opportunity and Collaboration Announced between NSF and ABF

New funding opportunity

The Agile BioFoundry (ABF), a biomanufacturing consortium funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), is partnering with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund new research. This new funding opportunity is entitled “Accelerating Innovations in Biomanufacturing Approaches through Collaboration Between NSF and the DOE BETO-Funded Agile BioFoundry.”

The goal of the funding opportunity is to accelerate innovation and adopt new biomanufacturing approaches. Proposals are sought from higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, and other eligible stakeholders. Proposals must utilize the Design-Build-Test-Learn platform of the ABF, which unites national laboratory facilities to help bioproducts from design to market with improved economic feasibility and minimized environmental impact. The world class ABF platform helps translate technology from the laboratory to industry scale with integrated bioreactor cultivation equipment to help researchers better understand the fermentation, purification, and downstream recovery processes.

Total funding is expected to be between $4–$5M (a previous email incorrectly stated that expected funding would be between $4-$5M per project). Applications are due by April 4, 2022.

See more about this solicitation on NSF’s website.
