ACE Portal Modernization FAQs

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is modernizing the Automated Commercial Environment Secure Data Portal (ACE Portal) over multiple phases in 2022. The modernization effort will entail the transition of existing functionality to an upgraded platform, offering easier use and better performance. The ACE Portal offers users real-time access to trade data through features such as ACE Reports, ACE account management, and electronic communication with CBP and Partner Government Agencies (PGA).

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the transition to the modernized ACE Portal.

Yes. From the modernized ACE Portal, navigate to the “References” tab and click the “Legacy ACE Portal” button. The legacy ACE Portal will remain available until January 2023 (tentative).

At this time, users should continue to follow the current process in the legacy ACE Portal for creating users. For more information, please see the Managing User Access training guide. When this functionality is available in the modernized ACE Portal, additional information will be provided.

For detailed instructions on how to use the functionality available in the modernized ACE Portal, check out the ACE Portal Training Resources

To sync their account access and permissions from the legacy portal to the modernized portal

Yes. Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari are all supported.

IE is not officially supported, and users will receive a warning on reduced functionality when accessing the portal in IE.

The legacy portal (ace.cbp.dhs.gov) will be redirected to the modernized portal where users who have not yet synced their accounts must do so. The modernized portal will be the only way to log in, but users will have the ability to go back to legacy if they please. When going back to legacy, they will not need to re-login.

No. The modernization effort has no impact on ACE Reports.

Yes, the legacy URL will remain the same during the transition period. Information on any changes to legacy will be communicated ahead of time. The legacy portal (ace.cbp.dhs.gov) will be redirected to the modernized portal

The link to the Protest System will soon be on the “References” tab of the modernized portal and on the Protest Filer account page. Until these links are available, navigate to the “References” tab and click the “Legacy ACE Portal” button to launch the Protest Module.

The link to AES will soon be on the “References” tab of the modernized portal and on the Exporter account page. Until these links are available, navigate to the “References” tab and click the “Legacy ACE Portal” button to access AES.

All existing functions of the Automated Export System (AES) will not be impacted by the modernized portal. The link to AES will soon be on the “References” tab of the modernized portal.

At this time, users should continue to follow the current process in the legacy ACE Portal for creating users. For more information, please see the Managing User Access training guide. When this functionality is available in the modernized ACE Portal, additional information will be provided.

We recommend that you keep your legacy user id and password throughout the transition until the legacy portal is retired. You will not need it for the modernized portal, but it may be needed for existing functions in the legacy portal.

All users are required to individually sign in to the modernized ACE Portal using their own email address and password. Once users sync their account using their legacy ACE Portal ID and password, their legacy ACE Portal access will automatically be applied to their modernized ACE Portal account.

Please note that a given legacy ACE Portal ID and password may only be used once for syncing a legacy ACE Portal account to a modernized ACE Portal account. In the event that multiple trade users share a single account’s login information, the Account Owner will need to go in and create individual user accounts for additional users. This is done in an Account Owner’s legacy ACE Portal account by clicking the “User Access” button in the Tools tab. After additional individual users have been set up in the legacy ACE Portal, individual users will need to follow the required steps to set up their modernized ACE Portal accounts and sync their legacy ACE Portal account information.
