Thursday, April 25: As a warm front moves through the Flint Hills, periods of heavy rain will likely reduce burning activity. Additionally, easterly to southeasterly winds will strengthen, aiding dispersion. However, these winds will continue to carry smoke into Wichita from potential fires in the south-central and southwestern Flint Hills. In the evening hours, south-southeasterly winds in the far northeastern Flint Hills will transport smoke from potential fires into Lincoln, Nebraska. Furthermore, smoke from potential fires in the eastern Flint Hills will be carried into Topeka.
Friday, April 26: A low pressure system moving northeastward through Nebraska will produce moderate to strong south-southwesterly winds and thunderstorms across eastern Kansas, enhancing mixing and dispersion. These conditions will reduce smoke impacts in affected regions. However, smoke from potential fires in the eastern and southeastern Flint Hills will be carried into Topeka. Additionally, smoke from potential fires in the northern Flint Hills will be transported into Omaha, Nebraska. Furthermore, smoke from potential fires in southern Sedgwick County will be transported into Wichita, and from Johnson County into Kansas City. |
