Join BETO's Soil Carbon Workshop

Soil Carbon

On March 28–29, 2022, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) will host a public virtual workshop to discuss soil carbon storage with a focus on the role of bioenergy. The workshop will include discussions around methods for building healthy soils, decarbonizing agriculture and forestry, and assessing full life cycle greenhouse gas emissions associated with generating biomass for bioenergy.

Talks will include a keynote from Dr. Rattan Lal, Ohio State University, and an introduction from Dr. Valerie Sarisky-Reed, Director of BETO. Panel presentations, discussion, and stakeholder feedback will be facilitated through interactive sessions. BETO will share a summary of findings from the workshop with a public report.

Please register by March 18, 2022 to attend this free, virtual workshop.

Attendees may submit a brief, three-slide deck by March 9, 2022 on any topic related to the workshop, including soil carbon and bioenergy partnerships, especially those that meet Justice 40 Initiative goals through work with communities, small businesses, and disadvantaged groups. Participants who submit a deck will have an opportunity to present for five minutes on the afternoon of March 28, 2022.
