Heating Assistance Available
Our cold weather helps us appreciate a warm home and if you’re struggling to heat your house, the state Energy Assistance Program can offer financial assistance with heat and electric bills, emergency fuel deliveries, and repair or replacement of broken heating systems. Grants are based on household size, income, and utility costs, and average $500. Learn more or fill out an application here.
Also, the Cold Weather Rule is in effect which can prevent utility customers behind on their bills from having their electric or natural gas service shut off if they develop a payment plan with their service provider. Details about the protections under the rule are available here.
New laws take effect January 1
On January 1, new laws will take effect, including some consumer protection items and a requirement for postnatal care. You can read more here.
Stay in Touch with the Legislature
Although I will not be serving in the House after January 3, you can continue to stay in touch with the legislature. The Minnesota House of Representatives Public Information Services offers nonpartisan recaps of high-profile bills, committee hearings, and floor sessions with their Session Daily publication. Subscribe to receive these here. To track bills of interest through the legislative process, I encourage you to utilize the MyBills feature on the Minnesota House of Representatives’ website.
Sincerely,
Andrew Carlson
