The Central Library’s hours will change at the end of this month as more employees are shifted to work behind the scenes to prepare for the downtown building’s closure.

The library will be closed Sunday, Jan. 29, and Monday, Jan. 30. Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Central Library will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The reduction in hours is one of the first steps in the draw-down toward closing the location prior to relocation.

Fort Worth City Council approved the sale of the building in December 2022 as part of a larger plan to reduce the number and size of city-owned buildings. The Central Library is nearly 250,000 square feet, and only the floor at street level is open to the public.

Stay up to date about the sale of the library building.

Anyone who paid for an engraved brick around the building may sign up to receive information.
