The City of Fremont is proud to announce our newest Deputy Fire Chief, Heather Mozdean. Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean was selected out of a competitive field of highly respected candidates and joins Deputy Fire Chief Zoraida Diaz as a widely recognized female leader who will enhance our organization and community.
During Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean’s nearly 20 years of service with the Oakland Fire Department, Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean served as a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Fire Chief of Operations. Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean obtained her degree from the University of California at Berkeley, while also serving as the Team Captain of their Division I lacrosse team. Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean also holds State of California Company and Chief Officer certifications and is working on the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) Chief Fire Officer Certification.
Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean has experience serving as a mentor, teacher, and leader – fostering strong partnerships with city government officials and community-based agencies. Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean is also an advocate for women in fire through her participation in CalJAC, i-Women, Driven to Serve, and the NorCal Women in the Fire Service Girls Fire Camps. Deputy Fire Chief Mozdean brings a lifelong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the fire service to our organization. We’re honored to welcome her to Fremont!

Residents who suffered uninsured or underinsured storm-related damage are now eligible to apply for assistance under FEMA’s Individual Assistance program. Losses not covered by insurance or FEMA funding may be eligible under the U. S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) low interest disaster loan program.
Businesses
Businesses that suffered significant storm-related damage or economic injury may apply for assistance under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) low interest disaster loan program.

Police Chief Washington Selected as one of the 24th Assembly District's Black History Month Honorees
Police Chief Sean Washington has been selected as one of State Assembly District 24's Black History Month Honorees. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, February 18, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the South Bay Community Church, located at 47385 Warm Springs Blvd. in Fremont. Assemblymember Alex Lee, Senator Aisha Wahab, and Fremont Councilmembers Teresa Cox and Desrie Campbell will be participating in this celebration.

On January 28, the City of Fremont held a successful Lunar New Year Event at the Downtown Event Center and Plaza to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit and Cat. More than 1,000 community members attended this family-friendly event, complete with tasty treats from food trucks, kids’ activities, and live performances by Eternity Band, Tongyi Tin Guzhen Academy, and Dragon Rhythm Shaolin Kung Fu Special. Caltrans has canceled this weekend’s Interstate 680 closure due to predicted rain. The rescheduled closures of Northbound I-680 in Sunol between State Route 84 and Sunol Boulevard have been moved to the last three weekends in February. The closures include President's Day weekend.
