![Banner graphic reads: Children's Programs at the Library:](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/NCDARECOUNTY/2023/02/7219652/narrow-page-banners-8_original.png) Dare County Library Children's Bookmark Contest:
The Dare County Library is pleased to announce the return of our annual children’s bookmark contest. Beginning April 1, 2023, children of all ages will be able to pick up a blank entry form or print it below to enter our Dare County Library bookmark contest.
Children can decorate a blank bookmark with library-related pictures and/or words. There are four age categories (ages 2-6, ages 7-9, ages 10-13 and ages 14-18), and the winner selected in each category will receive a gift certificate to a local bookstore. The Dare County Library will print the winning bookmarks in color and make them available at the front desk of each of the libraries throughout the year. Observed annually to coincide with National Library Week, our bookmark contest is a fun way for children to get creative and show how much books, reading and the library mean to them.
Bookmark entries must be received by the end of the business day on Thursday, May 4, 2023. For more information, or to pick up an entry form, please stop by any of the three Dare County Libraries: Manteo, 252-473-2372; Hatteras 252-986-2385; or Kill Devil Hills 252-441-4331.

Voting Deadline for North Carolina Children's Book Award
Extended to April 21, 2023:
This award is truly a children's book award selected by the children of the state of North Carolina!
The North Carolina Children's Book Award (NCCBA) is sponsored by the Youth Services Section of the North Carolina Library Association. Since 1992, North Carolina's schoolchildren have nominated their favorite books published within the past three years. Members of the NCCBA committee select 10-12 titles from the nominated books in two categories: picture books and junior books.
Through April 21, 2023 kids can vote for their favorite books from the list of picture book and junior book nominees.
Look for the nominees at your Dare County Library branch, find eBooks and eAudiobooks available through the NC Kids Digital Library, or print the list here.
Children can cast their vote online or stop by the Kill Devil Hills Library to vote with a paper ballot through April 21, 2023.
School-age children can also nominate a title for the 2024 award online.

Dare County Library Expands Recovery Collection Thanks to Guidance from the Saving Lives Task Force :
Addiction and recovery are matters that touch so many in our community. The Dare County Library is pleased to announce a greatly expanded selection of books for individuals and families on these subjects. Most of the newly purchased books are meant for the general reader; for the person in recovery or for their family members.
If you don’t have a Dare County Library card, you may sign up for one for free, as they are available to anyone who lives in or owns property in Dare County. Public libraries are a safe space for individuals to receive any information they are seeking confidentially from a friendly, helpful and non-judgmental staff member.
The Dare County Library would like to offer our sincere thanks to Roxana Ballinger, who serves as co-chair of the Saving Lives Task Force, www.savinglivesobx.com, for her book purchase suggestions. The Dare County Library strives to meet the information and recreation needs of residents and property owners by providing up-to-date and relevant resources that meet the diverse needs of our community.
