League of Cities Webinar June 28th

Correction Regarding Registration

League

In a Northwest District Bulletin from Monday, I included news about a webinar sponsored by the Iowa League of Cities coming up next Wednesday June 28The League's webinar is at 10:00AM, followed by a Q&A Session at 11:15AM.

You're encouraged to attend both, but note that there are two separate registrations links needed.  The corrected links are displayed below, apologies for my snafu on Monday.

Iowa League of Cities Research Director Erin Mullenix, along with Ted Nellesen from the Iowa Department of Management, will host a free webinar on June 28 regarding House File 718.  This webinar will be recorded by the League.

Register for the 10:00AM League Webinar

Representatives from the Iowa League of Cities and the State Library of Iowa will be on hand to answer your questions about the HF718 and its potential impact on your library and city budgets. One key piece of the bill is the consolidation of numerous levies (including the 27Cent Library Levy) into one adjusted city general fund levy. This session will not be recorded.

Important Background Behind This Webinar

A new law passed by the Iowa Legislature this spring relates to property taxes in Iowa.  Among other things, HF718 concerns special levies that some Iowa cities and towns have passed over the years.  One of the available special levies that benefited public libraries through additional funding was referred to as the Special Library Levy or the  27Cent Library Levy.

Twelve Northwest Iowa towns successfully passed the 27Cent Library Levy over the years.  Because this funding is now in question, earlier this month I sent an email with this information and previewed an upcoming webinar sponsored by the Iowa League of Cities.  This webinar will explain more about HF718, its impact on property taxes, and the disposition of the special levies.

The League's webinar is now scheduled for next Wednesday June 28th at 10:00AM, with Q&A time to follow.  Read more about the law on the Iowa League of Cities website, or visit this page for an article on the topic in June's Cityscape Magazine.  This is important information to share with your library boards as well.

Hoping you and your trustees can make plans to attend the
Iowa League of Cities webinar next Wednesday June 28th to learn more.
