We all know exercise is an important part of meeting health goals, but we each have to learn the right type of exercise for us as individuals--how long, how hard, and how often to exercise? How to avoid injury?  Is soreness normal?  Learn the answers to these common questions and more from an expert trained in exercise.

Ms. Frederic is a licensed physical therapist with a passion and focus on orthopedic physical therapy. She is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Titleist Performance Institute Medical Professional. Ms. Frederic is certified in Graston Technique. As owner, she has established a culture within Forever Fit that focuses on rapid recovery.

Join SHIP for County Libraries' free monthly Medicare seminar! The Montgomery County SHIP Director, Rafael Espinoza, will present expert, unbiased information about the choices you need to know about before enrolling in Medicare. You will learn about what coverage you need, how enrollment periods work, and how to avoid penalties.

Enroll Your Group or Program in County’s 5th Active Aging Week – October 2nd to 8th Active Aging Week (AAW) is an international week-long campaign that celebrates the positivity of aging and active living. Montgomery County has been an AAW participant since 2018.

Senior centers, recreation centers, hospitals, libraries, agencies, and community organizations throughout the County already host a variety of special events and programs that showcase opportunities for growing, learning, having fun and staying fit as we age.

Organizations serving the 55+ population are encouraged to submit at least two activities or programs (hopefully free) that can be included in a calendar of events.

The signature Kick-Off event “Go, Grow & Get Active” will take place on Monday, October 2nd at Brookside Gardens, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.


Take Advantage of Virtual Workshops Cancer: Thriving and Surviving
Thursdays:  August 24th  to September 28th  from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm (Register by 8/22/23)

Join this free virtual six-week workshop that will give you the tools and real-life skills to build confidence around managing health, staying active, and enjoying life while living with a cancer diagnosis. While the phrase “living with cancer” is a lot easier said than done, this evidence-based workshop is here to help as participants share their successes and build a common source of support.

You will learn:
*Ways to manage symptoms, such as pain, frustration, isolation, and poor sleep
*How to get help when you need it
*How cancer changes your body
*How cancer can affect relationships
*How to make better nutrition and exercise choices
*How to work with your health care team
*Effective problem solving
*Ways to make decisions about treatments and complementary therapies

Participants receive a copy of “Living A Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” 5th edition which follows the curriculum and provides additional ways to address specific issues. The workshop is delivered online via Teams and participants may join with a computer and webcam, or by phone.

The Career Gateway Provides Affordable Job Search Training for 50+ Job Seekers September 11, 13, 14, 18, 20 (Interactive and Online)

Are you over 50 and looking for a new job?  The Career Gateway Program, which is funded by Montgomery County and delivered by JCA, can help you hone your resume, polish your networking and interviewing skills, and use Internet job search resources more effectively. Each session of the Career Gateway features 30 hours of small-group classroom instruction over five days, comprehensive take-home materials, practical exercises, and a long-term mentor – all for only $75. Sessions run from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Optional employment-related tech classes are also available. Sessions and tech classes will be an interactive, Zoom experience. Don’t be intimidated by online instruction. We’ll train you and will work through this together.
