On March 6, 2024, Maryland submitted a request to amend its section 1115 demonstration, entitled "HealthChoice Medicaid Section 1115 Demonstration," to provide pre-release services to certain individuals with substance use disorder (SUD), serious mental illness (SMI) or both, who are soon to-be former inmates of a public institution and otherwise eligible for Maryland Medicaid. In this amendment, Maryland aims to improve coverage and access to behavioral health care for those involved with the criminal justice system. The federal public comment period will be open from March 22, 2024 through April 21, 2024.
