A Growing Number of U.S. Adults Practice Yoga

Many more Americans rolled out their yoga mats in 2022 than in 2002. National survey data show that 15.8 percent of U.S. adults practiced yoga in 2022, compared to only 5.0 percent 20 years earlier. 

Yoga is an ancient and complex practice, rooted in Indian philosophy. It has become popular as a way of promoting physical and mental well-being. Research suggests that yoga may help improve general wellness by relieving stress, supporting good health habits, and improving emotional health, sleep, and balance. It may also be helpful for symptoms of some health conditions, such as anxiety and depression.
