The Virtual Hudson River

Picture of a woman holding a camera to film herself in front of a map.As schools have shifted to online learning, DEC's Hudson River estuary educators are finding new ways of connecting with students, teachers, and families. Each week, educators are creating opportunities to discover the Hudson River virtually. The Virtual River introduces the natural world of the Hudson through educational videos, interactive lessons, and activities for those now schooling from home. The content is developed for a mix of ages so families can learn together about their local environment online. There are even opportunities to submit questions that the education staff will answer in future online presentations. Until we can visit the Hudson River estuary with students, teachers, and families again, we invite everyone to enjoy the Virtual River. Dip your toes into the virtual river!

Many other great resources for families can be found on DEC's webpage, Caregiver Resources While At Home. There are tips for transitioning into remote learning, quick family activities, environmental education lesson plans, links to National Geographic's Explorer Classroom, the American Museum of Natural History's Ology: A Science Website for Kids, and much more.
