DHS seeks members to serve on the HCBS Disparities Advisory Group

These times are trying and unpredictable, to say the least. Our community is hurting, and we need action to transform our systems. Identifying and addressing racial, ethnic and tribal affiliation disparities in home and community-based services (HCBS) is critical to the wellbeing of everyone in Minnesota.

The University of Minnesota School of Public Health, in partnership with DHS, invites interested stakeholders to apply to join the HCBS Disparities Advisory Group. This statewide group will examine patterns of enrollment and service use in Minnesota for people who use HCBS.

Group details

We seek 15-20 members from across the state who represent various tribal nations and diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds.

Familiarity with Minnesota’s disability and/or aging services system is preferred but not required, as is experience with the assessment process for HCBS waivers (e.g., MnCHOICES, long-term care consultation [LTCC] services, DD screening, and PCA assessment). We hope to engage people who can lend insight into the data we have collected to date.

Involvement

Members will be expected to attend up to four 3-hour meetings before the end of 2020. Additionally:

  • · Meetings will begin this summer.
  • · Group members will determine the meeting dates.
  • · Meetings likely will be held virtually to meet social distancing recommendations.
  • · Members will receive a stipend for each meeting they attend.
  • How to apply

To apply, complete the HCBS Disparities Advisory Group online application. The deadline to apply is July 3, 2020.
