Safety Guidelines During the COVID-19 Crisis

As the weather gets warmer, it is important to continue to practice safe behaviors to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Benefits.gov wants to keep you up-to-date and informed on the current pandemic safety guidelines offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the White House to keep Americans safe as the country reopens.

The White House and CDC provide the following guidelines to continue to ensure the safety of you and those around you:

  • Avoid close physical contact. It is important that we remember that there are people without symptoms who can spread the virus. Continue to avoid socializing in large groups of people in circumstances that do not readily allow for appropriate physical distancing.
  • It is especially important for those at high risk of getting very sick to adhere to social distancing guidelines, even as states reopen.
  • Members of households with vulnerable residents should be aware that by returning to work or other environments where distancing is not practical, they could carry the virus back home.
  • Minimize all non-essential travel and adhere to CDC guidelines regarding isolation following travel.
  • The CDC continues to urge people to wear cloth face coverings when out in public. This face covering is meant to protect others from getting sick in case you are a carrier and is not a substitute for social distancing.
  • Always clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.

For more information on how to protect yourself and others, and what to do if you get sick, visit the CDC Website. To read more about the White House’s guidance on opening America again, visit WhiteHouse.gov.
