Serving on the Frontlines: The Impact of Faith and Community Leaders Countering Human Trafficking for Over 20 Years

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000 (a division of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Act), the first comprehensive law in the United States to address the transnational crime of human trafficking, child sexual exploitation and forced labor. 

To commemorate the Act, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives is hosting a webinar to highlight the contributions of faith and community leaders, our frontline service providers who diligently work to counter the detrimental effects of modern day slavery in all of its forms.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the TVPA, U.S. Department of State declares 2020 the year of “Freedom First,” in recognition that human dignity, autonomy and freedom are essential to the exercise of our rights and liberties. Delivering on unfulfilled promises of freedom for the millions of people whom traffickers exploit must remain a first priority for us all.

This year also marks the10th anniversary of Blue Campaign. Over the past 10 years, the Blue Campaign has worked to raise awareness of human trafficking, educate industry and the public how to recognize and report the crime, and train law enforcement how to utilize a victim-centered approach. Thank you to all the organizations and individuals who have collaborated with us, shared our resources and used their voices to combat human trafficking. The  Faith-Based and Community Toolkit is a human trafficking resource to engage houses of worship and the community to help raise awareness of human trafficking and how to respond to the needs of victims or those vulnerable to harm.
