NYS Food Scraps TransportersIn 2019, NYS passed the Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling law. Effective January 1, 2022, businesses that generate an annual average of two tons of wasted food per week or more must:
On June 1, 2021, DEC will publish a list of food scraps transporters that are able to serve those who are generating an annual average of two tons of wasted food per week or more. This list will assist the food retail & food service industry in finding a local food scraps transport company to work with. Complete the NYS Food Scraps Transporter Survey to have your company information published on this list. DEC MWRR Grants for Recycling Coordination and Education Projects Now Open!DEC is now accepting applications for matching grant funding for recycling coordination, education, planning and promotion projects to be conducted and completed during January 1, 2021 - December 31, 2021. You must submit applications via NYS Grants Gateway no later than October 30, 2020 by 3 p.m. Funding will reimburse up to 50 percent of costs of eligible projects including costs of salary for a municipal recycling coordinator, recycling education and outreach tools, recycling advertising, recycling websites, and promotional items. Eligible applicants are counties, cities, towns, villages, local public authorities, local public benefit corporations, school districts, supervisory districts, and improvement districts, or Indian Nations residing in New York State. Please note: While DEC is soliciting applications for this opportunity, state budget restrictions may be imposed in the future, which could limit or delay the awarding of grants. NYSAR3 Green School Grants AvailableNYSAR3 established a grant program for public, private, and charter schools Grades K-12 in 2005. The goal of the Green School grant program is to provide funds to rejuvenate existing programs, or to develop new programs centered around the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, recycle). Awards are given twice yearly; this is a competitive grant so new, innovative ideas, imagination, ingenuity and initiative are highly valued. For each round there is a limited pool of available funds and not all projects may be awarded, up to $1,000. Learn more and submit your application by November 8, 2020. Events:
