Volunteers’ Week is a time to recognise and say thank you to volunteers who do a great job in our local communities. Over the last year even more people than ever – from all walks of life and in all our local places – have gone out of their way to help their neighbours and support each other, making a huge difference. Third Sector Leaders Kirklees have teamed up with Kirklees Museums & Galleries to create an online exhibition to share some of these inspiring stories. You can hear more this week and join in by following @TSLVolunteering or #VolunteersWeekKirklees on social media.
This Virtual Volunteers’ Fair is a chance for you to meet some of the local organisations who need help from volunteers. Different community organisations are taking part each day. It’s a great way to find out how to start your volunteering journey, or to try something new.
WOVEN is a celebration of innovation in textiles across Kirklees. From Saturday 5th June you can start to explore and experience WOVEN in lots of local places. Most participatory activities where people may need to gather will take place towards the end of the month, giving the best chance of them being able to take place within COVID safety regulations.
The Kirklees Climate Commission will bring together key communities, organisations and groups from across Kirklees to support, guide and track climate action in our area. The Commission is now recruiting members, with applications welcomed for a number of Commissioners to represent the voluntary, public and private sectors. If you're part of a community or environmental group, you can apply by 14th June to be a Commissioner.
Grants of up to £20k are available from Kirklees Council to help vital community buildings recover from Covid-19 and keep providing activities that really matter for people in our communities. Voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations in Kirklees who own or rent buildings in our local places can apply by 6th June, to help you recover lost income due to Covid-19 restrictions. Not sure if you can apply? Please get in touch:
