The economic impact of Covid-19 has been huge and is far reaching. It has severely limited the operation of many businesses, setting back the impressive economic growth we have seen in recent years.

The council has responded strongly to these challenges, co-ordinating immediate support to businesses through distribution of essential grants, whilst also looking ahead to the long-term needs of the city through the development of an economic recovery strategy.

The event will put into context the council’s medium term financial plan, the challenges, but also the economic and community recovery opportunities, to drive investment including: the Future City Plan, HS2, Clean Air Zone and the unique legacy offered by the Commonwealth Games 2022, increasing the pace and scale of growth, while also delivering our climate change objectives.
