ARLINGTON, Va. (ABC7) — Sports are returning to Prince George's County this spring. Schools superintendent Dr. Monica Goldson made the announcement just three weeks before student-athletes can hit the field.
"For students involved in athletic activities, coaches may begin in-person afterschool conditioning and outdoor workouts on Wednesday, March 10," her guidance, released Wednesday, says. "Spring sports season practice will begin Tuesday, April 6."
While Fairfax and Prince William counties in Virginia are already coming back to play fall sports, including football on Feb. 22, the athletes in Prince George’s County were at one point caught in limbo with no plans to return.
As of February 15, there had been no updated plans released for athletics in the county. The Prince George’s County website indicated a goal to return in February, but no word had been conveyed to parents, athletes, and coaches who have been left wondering, often frustrated by the lack of communication.
