I-65 Added Travel Lanes Project in Boone County

INDOT is preparing to reconstruct and widen I-65 from north of State Road 32 to north of State Road 47 in Boone County. The project will add one lane in each direction and reconfigure the I-65 and Lafayette Avenue interchange near Lebanon. E&B Paving LLC was selected in October 2020 to complete the work with a bid of $83,733,000. Construction is expected to begin in March 2021 and continue until late 2022.

The I-65 Added Travel Lanes Project includes:

  • Reconstructing the shoulders of I-65 so two lanes in each direction may be maintained throughout construction
  • Adding travel lanes along I-65 within the roadway median from 0.82 mile north of SR 32 to 0.60 mile north of SR 47
  • Removing the I-65 to Lafayette Avenue left-hand exit movement
  • Replacing the twin bridges carrying I-65 over Prairie Creek (I65-142-05571 BNBL and I65-142-05571 BSBL), located north of US 52 (Des. No. 1902059 and 1902060)

Traffic Noise Recommendations

Following outreach as part of the environmental process, a noise barrier will be constructed on the east side of northbound I-65 south of the Lafayette Avenue exit ramp. Before the noise barriers are constructed in 2022, residents and/or property owners will be given the opportunity to provide their input on the wall aesthetics.
