Project Overview

The Snake River (Ontario) Bridge provides important access between Oregon and Idaho. Built in 1967, the structure needs repairs and upgrades. If we do not address these issues, the bridge will continue to deteriorate. Maintenance costs will increase and travel across the bridge may be interrupted.

Purpose

This project makes important safety upgrades to the bridge.

Project work includes:

  • Replace existing surface pavement with more durable and longer lasting material.
  • Replace bridge joints.
  • Repair concrete girders.
  • Construct new curb ramp on northwest (Oregon) side of bridge.
  • Retrofit existing bridge rail to meet rail height standards.

Project Elements

The repairs we make will help preserve and extend the life of the bridge, avoiding the need for more critical and costly repairs in the future.

Repairs and upgrades improve safety and provide smoother travel across the bridge.

Surface Pavement

Worn out and rutted pavement makes for a bumpy ride. We will replace the existing pavement with a more durable and longer lasting material.

Bridge Joints

Bridge joints allow movement during temperature changes and protect the bridge structure. We will replace the failing deck and sidewalk joints. Replaced sidewalk joints will create ADA compliant access for all.

Concrete Girders

Concrete girders support the bridge deck. We will repair deteriorating concrete to strengthen the bridge.

New Curb Ramp

We will construct a new curb ramp on the northwest (Oregon) side of the bridge. This ramp will meet current American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Bridge Rail

We will add steel tube railing to the existing bridge rail to meet current safety standards.

What to Expect During Construction

Because this route provides critical access for Oregon and Idaho residents and businesses, we will keep impacts to the community to a minimum. If you have any concerns or questions, please visit the last station for ways to contact us.

Anticipated impacts include:

  • Expect signs and flaggers to direct traffic through the work zone.
  • We will maintain one open lane in each direction at all times.
  • We will establish an alternate route to direct traffic away from the work zone to alleviate expected congestion.
  • We will provide access for pedestrians, including those will disabilities, through or around work zones.

How you can stay informed:

When construction begins in 2022, we will provide traffic updates on TripCheck.com.
