 The U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) released the latest "LPO Tech Talk" blog post from LPO Chief Engineer Michael Reed. The technology focus this time is advanced geothermal, an energy sector that LPO has financed for over a decade, but one that holds even more promise given the expanse of the resource and recent innovations.
Beyond improving the efficiency of current geothermal plants, advances in the sector could dramatically broaden the geographic reach of the technology. The geothermal innovations may also be applied to various industrial uses that are difficult to decarbonize, such as clean hydrogen production, greenhouses, concrete, lumber drying, and heat pumps.
