Get ready for National Geothermal Day (Oct. 20) and learn where geothermal energy comes from! The Geothermal Technologies Office encourages you to celebrate by following an easy step-by-step tutorial on how you can make a model of the Earth’s layers with household materials.

Have you ever wondered where the word “geothermal” comes from? Break down the word: “geo” means Earth and “thermal” means heat. The inside of the Earth is very hot, and as we go deeper into the earth, the hotter it gets—and that is where geothermal energy comes from! Geothermal is quite literally the heat beneath our feet!
