City of Troy Announces Composting Pilot Program

The City of Troy has been awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Resource Conservation Service’s Community Composting and Food Waste Reduction Project initiative. The program, “From the Ground Up,” provides an opportunity for Troy residents to keep food scraps out of their trash with no cost to residents. This program is in partnership with FoodScraps360 and the Town of Bethlehem.

Looking for Pumpkin Smashes and Pumpkin Drop Off Events

Instead of throwing your carved pumpkins into the garbage, some local governments and community groups host pumpkin smashes or pumpkin drop off events where residents are invited to drop off their pumpkins for composting.

Are you a local government or organization hosting a pumpkin smash or pumpkin drop off event in your community? Email OrganicRecycling@dec.ny.gov with a link to the event details and we’ll make sure to highlight it in the Solid Waste & Recycling Newsletter throughout the month of October.
