You’re Invited: Live from COP 26, Join DOE for Two Events Focused on Combating Climate Change

Tomorrow, live from COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, join the U.S. Department of Energy’s Deputy Secretary David Turk for two events focused on combating climate change: Building a Better Battery and H2 Twin Cities – Connecting communities around the world to deploy clean hydrogen solutions. Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Kelly Speakes-Backman will also provide remarks at both events, discussing how EERE’s mission will help the United States reach Biden-Harris Administration 2035 and 2050 climate goals.

10:00 AM – 11:00 AM GMT: The Building a Better Battery panel will bring perspectives from the United States, other world governments, and industry on strengthening the resilience of global lithium battery supply chain. Globally, the lithium battery market is expected to grow by a factor of 5–10 by 2030, which will stress battery and battery component supply chains. It will take a concerted effort over the short-, medium- and long-term, working with allies and partners to strengthen our collective supply chain resilience. This event will serve as a catalyst to build collaborative efforts between the U.S. and key allies and partners focused on bolstering resilient supply chain for the U.S. and our allies.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM GMT: The H2 Twin Cities event will bring together government leaders from countries around the world to discuss hydrogen’s role in advancing climate goals and strengthening the global commitment to environmental justice and equity. At this event, DOE will help launch a unique partnering program, H2 Twin Cities, that aligns with Hydrogen Shot goals to reduce the cost of clean hydrogen by 80% to $1 per 1 kilogram in 1 decade ("1 1 1"). The Hydrogen Shot establishes a framework and foundation for clean hydrogen deployment in the American Jobs Plan, which includes support for demonstration projects.

Join us virtually tomorrow to learn more about how DOE is working to combat climate change and help decarbonize the transportation sector. Every U.S. Center event will be livestreamed. The livestream will be accessible via the U.S. Center YouTube Page and U.S. Center Website
