Vaccine mask

Reduce your risk of flu

Every fall, King County’s Balanced You team encourages employees to get their flu shot and this fall, flu shots are more important than ever. Getting the flu shot can reduce your risk of getting the flu, help protect vulnerable populations, and conserve health care resources as we continue to navigate the pandemic.

We encourage you to visit your local pharmacy or doctor’s office to receive your flu shot. All King County employees and their dependents who are covered by Kaiser or Regence are eligible for free flu shots at healthcare clinics or pharmacies. Visit this blog post for information specific to each insurance plan. Contact BalancedYou@kingcounty.gov with any questions.

Diet Culture and Its Impacts on us: A Balanced You Workshop

As part of Balanced You's Food and Body Liberation program, we are hosting Liberating Jasper for a 75-minute workshop on Diet Culture and Its Impacts on Us. "Diet culture" is a set of beliefs that values thinness, appearance, and shape above health and well-being. In the U.S., this set of beliefs is reflected in everything from radio, movies, TV shows, and magazine racks, to informational brochures in our doctors' offices.

There’s a constant stream of information from all directions telling us to change. But what if your body isn't a problem to be fixed? In this session, we'll talk about the origins of diet culture and the subtle and not-so-subtle ways it shows up in our lives. We'll also talk about strategies to help you ditch diet culture--just in time for all the "new year, new you" messaging coming up. A recording of this session will be shared for those that cannot attend live.
