Thanking Sheriff’s Office employees in National Police Week

This week is National Police Week, and King County Executive Dow Constantine used the opportunity to thank King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) employees for their service.

I am grateful for everything that you do for the people of this region, and I thank you for your ongoing service,” Executive Constantine said in an email message to KCSO staff. “You are there, day in and day out, ensuring their safety and helping to make more welcoming, thriving communities.” Read the full announcement here.


 KCIT Tech Centers now located in Tukwila, Northgate, and South Seattle

KCIT Tech Center

 Executive Branch employees can now get IT support at any of KCIT’s new Tech Centers in Tukwila, Northgate or South Seattle. KCIT Tech Centers provide employees with convenient onboarding/offboarding services, docking station and monitor replacements, and general PC fixes that can’t be solved remotely.

KCIT Tech Center support is available BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. If onsite help is needed, KCIT staff will contact you to schedule an appointment at your preferred location. KCIT Tech Centers are another example of how KCIT is supporting King County’s hybrid workforce as we move forward with the Future of Work. The Seattle Pride Parade is back and King County is marching

Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 26 at 11 a.m. to joing your collegues representing King County in this year's Pride parade. Participants will be required to show proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test in order to participate.

T-shirts will be available for sale, so stand by for more information. There will be 150 adult size t-shirts available at no cost on a first-come, first-serve basis the morning of the parade.

Further details about when and where we will meet for the Parade will be sent out once it is available. To stay up to date on all thingsrelated to the Pride Parade, email leah.holland@kingcounyt.gov with the subject line "PRIDE Info."

Emergency Management staff present at state conference

Four Emergency Management employees presented at the statewide Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference last month.

Dr Anu Taranath

Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month: Exploring our differences and connections here in King County

The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders Affinity Group and King County Stormwater Services present Dr. Anu Taranath in a discussion on how to embrace and explore the complexities of ethnicities, languages and cultures in King County. 

Dr. Anu will use her book, Beyond Guilt Trips, to share insights that can help us as we travel through King County communities. The event is free and open to all King County employees.

King County 911 free community events on Saturday, May 14

Don’t miss these free local events! KCIT’s 911 outreach team will hand out coloring books, pens, and reusable bags that teach kids how and when to call 911 in case of an emergency. Stop by and say hello!

  • U District Farmers’ Market – Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5031 University Way N.E. in Seattle 
  • Teddy Bear Clinic – Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 24611 116th Avenue S.E. in Kent at the Fire Headquarters, Station 74. Bring your teddy bear or favorite stuffy in for a check-up! Kids can spray water from a firehose and climb on a real fire engine. The first 400 kids will receive a teddy bear from Warm 106.9.

Mindfulness Classes

 Mindful Movement: An hour of gentle, guided movement appropriate for all bodies.

Mindful Communication: When we communicate mindfully, every interaction is fresh with opportunity and open to discovery. Mindful Communication helps us break down the complex process of communication, increase awareness of what's really going on, and bring greater clarity and kindness to our interactions.


Mental Health First Aid certification class

This certification training is suggested for leaders at all all levels and anyone who has attended the Mental Health First Aid@Work class.

Learners come away with an understanding of how to care for their own wellbeing at work as well as an Action Plan to apply to non-crisis and crisis scenarios. The class includes two hours of self-paced pre-work, four hours of live instruction, and a knowledge test. 

Like CPR and physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid@Work trainings teach participants about mental health and substance-use issues. Participants will learn how to support an individual who may be experiencing mental illness and connect them to available resources internal and external of the workplace. The course is free.
