Final surfacing for Forder Valley Interchange gets under way

Map showing closure on Forder Valley Road and Leigham Roundabout and diversion routes

Parts of Leigham Roundabout and Forder Valley Road will be closed overnight next week as final surfacing work gets under way for the Forder Valley Interchange scheme.

The closure will be in place from Monday 11 July for five nights (7pm to 6am), during which time:

  • the southbound side of Forder Valley Road will be closed from the petrol station to Leigham Roundabout
  • Leigham Roundabout will be closed from the southbound side of Forder Valley Road to the A38 westbound off-slip

This means there will be no access to Longbridge Road, Marsh Mills or the A38 eastbound from Leigham Roundabout.

The rest of the roundabout will remain open, as will the northbound side of Forder Valley Road, so drivers will be able to access the A38 westbound, Delamere Road and Forder Valley Road from some arms of the roundabout.

The following diversions will be in place:

  • Access to Longbridge Road from the roundabout will be via Forder Valley Road northbound, Novorossiysk Road and Leigham
  • Access to the A38 from Longbridge Road will be via Leigham, Novorossiysk Road, Forder Valley Road (west), Fort Austin Avenue, through Crownhill Village and onto Tavistock Road to Manadon
  • Access to the A38 from Delamere Road will be via Forder Valley Road northbound, Fort Austin Avenue, Crownhill Village and Tavistock Road to Manadon

Vehicles will be able to travel straight ahead from Novorossiysk Road to Forder Valley Road West during these night works only, while the closure is in place on the southern stretch.

Plymouth Citybus’ Service 50 will need to be diverted during the works. From Derriford Hospital, the service will operate as far as Asda and then divert via Novorossiysk Road, Forder Valley Road West, Fort Austin Avenue and Crownhill Village on to Tavistock Road, Manadon and the A38, resuming the usual route at Marsh Mills.

The Service 50 will be unable to serve Bampton Road, Barnstaple Close or Longbridge Road. Bus users will, however, be able to board the Service 51 in the other direction and change at Asda to board the Service 50 towards the city centre. Citybus will place information at affected bus stops.

Once the work on this section of the roundabout is complete, the Delamere Road section will be surfaced, followed by Forder Valley Road. Further details will follow nearer the time.

Thanks for bearing with us while these final phases of work are carried out.

When complete, the Forder Valley Interchange scheme will improve traffic flow by upgrading and extending the short merge from Leigham Roundabout onto Forder Valley Road and providing an additional lane from Forder Valley Road onto the roundabout. Walking and cycling facilities are also being upgraded.
