After sharing federal updates, the series features lessons learned and best practices from faculty, staff, schools, districts, institutions of higher education, and other places of educational instruction. It also shares a variety of useful resources.   On behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Office of Safe and Supportive Schools, the National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) invites you to join the next Lessons from the Field webinar, Providing Required Compensatory Services That Help Students with Disabilities in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  Date:   Wednesday, July 27, 2022  Time:  3:00 – 4:15 pm ET  Please join the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) to learn when a school district must provide compensatory services to students with disabilities who did not receive the services to which they were entitled due to the pandemic and how to do so. Compensatory services are designed to remedy education or other deficits resulting from a student with a disability not receiving services they were due under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In this webinar, subject matter experts will discuss all aspects of compensatory services under Section 504 and the IDEA and parents and state and district level administrators responsible for developing plans to address pandemic related compensatory services will share their experiences.  Speakers/Panelists Valerie C. Related Resources This event will reference the following resources, which we encourage you to access in advance of the webinar to inform participation: In February 2022, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) released a fact sheet on the obligation to provide compensatory services to remedy educational or other deficits that result from students with disabilities not receiving evaluations or services to which they were entitled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fact Sheet: Providing Students with Disabilities Free Appropriate Public Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Addressing the Need for Compensatory Services Under Section 504  In September 2021, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) issued a Q&A document highlighting certain Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements including the requirement to provide compensatory services. Return to School Roadmap: Development and Implementation of Individualized Education Programs in the Least Restrictive Environment under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
