Nighttime demolition to restrict I-465, close two nearby I-65 ramps

INDIANAPOLIS (July 22, 2022) – Bridge replacement work is scheduled to close Carson Avenue at I-465 on Sunday, July 24.

The Carson Avenue closure is expected to last about five months and the detour will follow Keystone Avenue and Thompson Road. Click here to view a larger map.

I-465 traffic should expect nighttime lane closures and intermittent 20-minute traffic stoppages near Carson Avenue. Demolition of the bridge will require nighttime closures and detours for two nearby ramps between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.:

  • I-65 northbound ramp to I-465 westbound
  • The I-65 southbound ramp to I-465 westbound

Carson Avenue is the fifth and final bridge that the I-69 Finish Line project is replacing over I-465 to allow added lanes underneath. The new Madison Avenue overpass fully opened to four lanes and sidewalks earlier this week, and work is ongoing to replace the Mann Road bridge. The Mooresville Road Bypass and Keystone Avenue bridges were previously replaced and reopened on schedule.

About I-69 Finish Line
I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the Interstate 69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. The project will upgrade the existing S.R. 37 to interstate standards between Martinsville and Indianapolis.

Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Connections program fully funded the project and accelerated construction by three years. I-69 Finish Line is expected to open to traffic in late 2024, improving safety and reducing travel time.
